As our young adults with disabilities prepare themselves to leave the public school system and enter to adult life, it is critical that parents participate in the planning process to help their young adults in achieving their goals.


Internet Links for Young People with Disabilities

  American Council of the Blind - Helpful resources for blind and visually impaired persons.

  California Children's Services/Medical Therapy Program - services medically and financially eligible children under 21 year of age with chronic, long-term phsycially handicapping conditions, and who go to school in Ventura County or have parents or guardians who live in Ventura County.  They provide assistance for families and clients in transitioning their medical care into adult related servides.  Includes tools for transitioning to adult life.

  California National Guard Youth Challenge Program - Grizzly Youth Academy. The most challenging, rewarding and life changing experience of a young person's life.

  Law, Health Policy & Disability Center - The Law, Health Policy, and Disability Center is an emerging leader in law, technology, education and research. We are focused on improving the quality of life for persons living with disabilities. Based at the University of Iowa College of Law, with offices in Washington, D.C., and elsewhere, the center concentrates on public policy and its impact on persons with disabilities, with an emphasis on employment, self-determination and self-sufficiency.

  Social Security Benefits for People with Disabilities - The Social Security and Supplemental Security Income disability programs are the largest of several Federal programs that provide assistance to people with disabilities. While these two programs are different in many ways, both are administered by the Social Security Administration and only individuals who have a disability and meet medical criteria may qualify for benefits under either program.
