Response to Intervention (RtI)

Response to Intervention is a general education approach that has its roots in two federal laws - the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).  This model incorporates frequent screening to ensure that all students are learning, and systematic, increasingly intensive interventions that are provided as needed (often in three "tiers" of interventions).  This is a major educational systems change effort requiring the participation of all members of the educational community, including parents.

The Ventura County SELPA is participating with the Ventura County Office of Education and school districts in Ventura County in this systems change effort and is contributing to the dialogue about how special education students, professionals and paraprofessionals will be involved in this model.
